The European AGROSOIL project promotes the direct participation of farmers in research into sustainable agroecological practices through living labs. The aim is to reduce herbicide use and minimise soil tillage, while studying how these practices affect the soil microbiome and crop health.
Funded by the Horizon Europe programme and the Agroecology Partnership, the project (2025–2028) brings together eight partners from five European countries, including the CSIC, Agrotecnio and the University of Lleida.
In Lleida, a living lab has been created in collaboration with local associations such as Bioponent, Terra Viva and l’Era, where around fifteen female farmers will trial new weed management techniques—such as the use of compost extracts or the inoculation of seeds with beneficial microbiology—to improve agricultural resilience and sustainability.
